A New Perspective

SEEING OKLAHOMA'S TOPOGRAPHY DIFFERENTLY

A New Perspective

This project involved taking engineering concpepts of topographic map representation and making it more interactive and relatable by forcing it into the third dimension. In Adobe Illustrator I created layers from the original topographic map and spaced them out evenly to stack them in a forced 3D perspective and connecting the layers by adding shapes to complete the projected look.

I decided that I could create a piece of art based on these concepts and ideas. So, I purchased foam boards and used a projector to trace the topographic contours of the different layers. Then began the long task of cutting out the 10 different layers. The layers were glued in place with spray adhesive and as needed with super-glue. A frame, some spraypaint, fabric, and screws later and we have a personal finished art installation.
